What the reviews are saying

BookViral Reviews

⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐
“With The Everling and the Balefire Monster, Christie delivers another imaginative instalment: a strange, frequently funny and increasingly unsettling novel about memory, identity and the uncomfortable possibility that knowing what happened is not the same as understanding why. […] Darkly inventive, unpredictable and increasingly confident, The Everling and the Balefire Monster expands Christie’s world without losing sight of the vulnerable boy at its centre.
Another distinctive and entertaining addition to The Everling series, it is highly recommended.”

⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐
“J. Christie’s The Everling and the Balefire Monster is a gripping YA sci-fi fantasy tale that delivers an inventive growing-up story wrapped inside a dark, temporal puzzle. Christie’s clever use of parallel memory exploration changes how clues are gathered, keeping the reader fully invested in how the alternate timelines will line up. […] The story really shines when specific faculty members become like surrogate parents for the teens, weaving a thread of pure heart straight through the chaos.
It’s the perfect read for anyone looking for a fresh spin on the academy subgenre.”

⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐
“The Everling and the Balefire Monster by J. Christie […] combines all the best elements of science fiction and fantasy to craft another intriguing, action-packed and emotive YA adventure. […] J. Christie is also a master of dialogue, and this particular novel feels even more strongly voiced, especially as the characters age and develop their identities and their stance on what they want to fight for and against. […] Overall, The Everling and the Balefire Monster is a beautifully penned work that mixes the eccentric and heartfelt with precision […]
I cannot recommend this series enough to fans seeking well penned and genuinely moving boarding school drama with a supernatural twist.”

Brought far underground, he discovers a vast society bursting with mutants, the world’s greatest scientists, and the results of centuries of technological advancement. Here, Chezzy learns that he is the last of the immortal everlings, who founded this tech paradise. But once enrolled at Kepler’s school, Chezzy is quickly charged with finding an elusive figure hiding in the campus. As he juggles studies, making friends, and uncovering his own disturbing history, the everling learns how far he’ll go to keep everyone safe from… the Acid King.
